Design and Technology

KS1 - Egg Box Dragons

Children in KS1 made dragons out of egg boxes and made sure that each dragon had a moving part.

UKS2 - Moon Buggies

Year 5 and 6 have thoroughly enjoyed making their moon buggies and evaluating their work as they move through the process. They have had to think about the materials to use, joining processes and how to use the equipment safely.

UKS2 - Moon Buggies

The children in UKS2 have been learning about different types of axels and have designed their own moon buggies to put this new learning into practice.

Year 3 and 4 pupils have designed and made their own electrical games trying to use buzzers, switches or bulbs.

EYFS - Paper Lanterns

The children in EYFS looked at how people celebrate the Lunar New Year. They learnt that people let off lanterns as a representation of letting go of their past selves and having a fresh start . Templates and instructions were given in the creative area and children were able to design and make their own lantern. Everyone was able to select the materials they wanted and the different tools needed to shape, assemble and join the materials together.

Years 1 and 2 - Christmas Stockings

The children in Years 1 and 2 used their new textiles skills to design, make and evaluate a Christmas stocking.

They had to:

  • Cut out the shape of the stocking which had been created by drawing round a template

  • Join the two pieces of fabric together using running stitch

Teddy's Nursery - Food Preperation

The children in Teddy's Nursery made egg sandwiches. They talked about what tools and ingredients they would need and what order they should do the steps to make the perfect sandwich. The children showed good basic hygiene awareness and knew that it was very important to wash their hands before they started.

The children had lots of fun spread the butter on the bread, peeling the hard boiled eggs and eating the final product!

Years 1 and 2 - Robot Day

The children in Years 1 and 2 spent Autumn 1 half term focusing on the book 'The Robot and the Bluebird'. At the end of the half term they designed and made their own robot through junk modelling. The children had to cut along lines, straight and curved, to cut materials to size as well as join different materials appropriately. They used glue and tape for parts that stayed stationary and used treasury tags and split pins for moving parts.

Elm Class - Investigating different methods to join fabric

Moving Puppet Sliders

In Elm Class, the children have written their own version of the story ‘Zeraffa Giraffa’.  The children created slider puppets that they were able to move along the background as they read their story.
