Structures
LKS2

Children in LKS2 explored the life and work of architect, Normal Foster, to begin their structures unit.
KS1
Children learnt what a template is and how they can be used to help us cut different materials. They used templates to cut doors, windows, leaves, flowers etc. out of paper, card, tissue paper and felt fabric to decorate the front of a house structure.
KS1
Children have used hot glue gun, elastic bands, gluesticks, blu tack, sellotape etc. to create their own house structures.
KS1

Children used a hot glue gun to join different materials together.
KS1
Children in KS1 began their structures unit by exploring strengthening, stiffening and stability. They started off by exploring how we could strengthen or stiffen a single piece of paper using techniques like that folding, bending etc. After this, they investigated which shape is the strongest (square, triangle or circle) before using this to create their own strongest, more stable bases by increasing the layers/thickness of the tubes, adding additional tubes, making them shorter, taping them in place etc. Some groups managed to get their bases to hold over one hundred books! 📚
