Year 6 and under Girls Cricket Competition – Monday 12th June|
Monday 12th June was the day of the annual Year 6 and under Girls Cricket Competition at Fulwood and Broughton Cricket Club. We took a team of 8 girls: Eve Burrow, Lily Baines, Lily Yau, Tilly Bray, Jessica Anderson, Isabel Smith, Eva Murray and Grace Willingale. The children were excited to go out and perform. We were in a group of 3 schools which included ourselves, St Mary’s and St Andrew’s and Greenlands. Basically, we needed to win both games to get through to Finals Day. We absolutely thrashed Greenlands, 291 runs to their 218 runs. So, it all rested on the game against St Mary’s and St Andrew’s. They batted first and scored 261. This was a tough total, but Tilly Bray started off smashing the ball around and we were off to a great start. At halfway, we were on 235 and well on course. Unfortunately, we lost two quick wickets and this lost us 10 runs. In the end, we got agonisingly close at 258 and ended up losing by 3 runs. A superb effort by a super set of girls. The children were an absolute credit to our school, they played passion, pride and a smile on their faces. Well done to all and another huge thanks to all the parents who came along to support our team, again, like the good old days. Mr. Bird.
