We spent the afternoon painitng large scale pieces inspired by Monet out in the lovely sunshine.
CHALLENGE - Do all liquids behave in the same way?
We designed three different experiments of our own to test five different brands of tomato ketchup...
DT - Making travel wallets|
We used different types of stitches (running, over and blanket) to create a travel wallet fit for purpose with buttons and even a zip!
Salvation Army Visit|
Year 3 had a wonderful morning at the Salvation Army centre in Preston. We thoroughly enjoyed helping to sort some of the food out for the homeless and hungry, learning about all the different symbols of the Salvation Army, playing musical instruments from the church band and we even got to try on some old uniforms! A huge thank-you goes to Darren (and everyone at the centre) for showing us round and making us all feel welcome.
Local Artist Workshops|
Year 3 have been very lucky to be involved in workshops with Sarah Hicks, a local artist, all linked to our theme of Europe, and in partiular France. All the children have had a wonderful time and are looking forward to Sarah's next visit.
We have had a lovely morning decorating our own eggs and taking part in an 'Easter Egg Hunt'. Happy Easter from Year 3!
We have had fun this afternoon experimenting with collage techniques including tearing, overlapping and layering.
Re-using plastic bottles for Mother's Day|
Following on from World Water Day, Year 3 have been re-using some of the single use plastic bottles they brought in from home. We used tissue paper and LED tealight candles to make Mothers Day gifts.
We have spent this afternoon finishig off our lion masks from before half term. We used lots of different materials and had a fantastic time!
Internet Safety Day 2019|
We thoroughly enjoyed the first of our gymnastics sessions today. Roll on next Wednesday!
Our School Habitat|
To kick-start our topic on 'Habitats', we went on a little trip to the vegetable garden to see if we could find any creatures in our school habitat.
Symmetrical African Masks|
We hav spent the afternoon making symmetrical African masks using two different colours. Knowing where to cut and stick our pieces was tricky at first but we persevered and soon got the hang of it!
The Digestive System|
What a wonderful last day of term we have had! We got to experience the human digestive system in 3D inside the Explorer Dome.
Just keep swimming...|
We are very excited to welcome our new additions to Year 3! Thank you to everyone who voted!
A huge congratulations to Kedar, Isabella and Bella who have earned their pen licences - a very special achievement for children in Year 3!
Thank you so much for all the junk mail you sent into school over the past couple of weeks. We had lots of fun sorting it all out and coming up with alternative ways of sending information in order to save paper, and our planet!
2018 Christmas Fair|
We have spent the morning mixing up our very own gingerbread bath salts to sell at the Christmas Fair tomorrow afternoon. At the bargain price of just £2 a jar, they smell delicious and will give your bath a more festive feel.
We will also have a treasure hunt around school for children to take part in for just 50p a go.
See you there!
A special RE lesson|
What a treat we've had this morning! Mrs Boland came in to talk to us about the Christmas story and how it feels to be in the presence of God.
Georgia - I liked all the fun activities Mrs Boland asked us to do. My favourite was imagining I was a shepherd who got to see the baby Jesus and I drew a picture to show how astonished, amazed and puzzled I would be.
Joshua B - I have enjoyed learning about the definition of 'Emmanuel' which means 'God is with us' and 'Incarnation' which means 'God coming to Earth in human form'.
Christmas Art Afternoon|
A huge thank-you to everyone who came to help out with our Christmas art afternoon today - we had a wonderful time producing some very impressive calendars and Christmas stars!
Major Maggie from the Salvation Army|
We were very lucky earlier this week to recieve a visit from Major Maggie of the Salvation Army. She explained the history of the organisation and she talked to us about some of the work they are currently doing in our local area, as well as the wider community. Maggie also invited us for a visit to the centre in Preston so we watch this space!
