School Games - Sportshall Athletics - 23rd Nov

Broughton’s on fire, 1st in the School Games – Lancashire here we come!

Preston City School Games (Sportshall Athletics) – UCLan Sports Centre – 23rd November

Friday 23rd November was the day of the Preston City School Games (Sportshall Athletics). This is arguably the flagship sporting event for Preston Primary Schools over the course of the year. This year, there were 30 schools in attendance, with on average about 20 children per team. This equates to nearly 600 children, so it is not the easiest. However, the team had been training for this one for months, weeks, after schools and extra sessions at Broughton High! So they were ready, haha. Over the course of the day, the children had to do various team running races, both boys and girls and they did a selection of field events ranging from long jumping to throwing a javelin. Let me say, Broughton were on fire from start to finish. You had nearly all the team smashing their personal bests at every station and the boys came 1st or 2nd in every track and field discipline! WOWSERS! As a team we scored an absolutely monstrous 709 out of 726 points on offer. We only dropped 17 points all day! Probably the best score Preston has ever seen. More to the point though, the best thing was to see how they had grown as people. They were exceptional in behaviour, they were together like a family as a team and they had hearts of lions! AMAZING! I am so so so proud of every single of the team, many congratulations go to: Annabel Cutting (Captain) J, Bayla-Rose Smart, Elise Rawson, Lizzie Smyth, Isabel Joyce, Emily Clark, Alex Latham, Olivia Rankin, Darcy Hawthorne and Eva Hughes, Lewis Simpson (Capt), Jed Anderson, Charlie Bray, Oliver Heath, Ethan Chadwick, William Hall, George Heath, Alex Srivastava, Sam Willingale and William Jones.

Mr. B’s comments: I just feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to work with these wonderful children. They are one of the most dedicated, hard working and talented set of children I have ever worked with, and believe me, I have worked with some good uns. #superstars! Go Team Broughton. We are now representing Preston at Lancashire on Tuesday 5th March at Blackpool Sports Centre.
